romancing yourself: a single girl’s guide to valentine’s day
Propaganda I am never gonna fall for is that the single gals shouldn’t get to enjoy Valentine’s Day. I know it can be had not to feel bitter at all of those lovey-dovey couples. Been there, done that and got the t-shirt buuut we’re not going to spend our day hate-watching these people. Instead, make it a day about romanticising your own life and practicing some self-love. In the words of RuPaul, “if you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?“. Without any further natter, get yourself your fave bev of choice and let’s get you some ideas on how to spend this Valentine’s Day solo.
Buy yourself the damn flowers or whatever else it is you desire.
Get yourself a cute little bouquet or treat yourself to a something from your wish list. Of course Valentine’s Day isn’t all about the gifts but in 2026 we’re all about that princess treatment, even if it comes from ourselves. My go-to is usually some pretty flowers and a mini bottle of wine to enjoy while doing my pamper evening but you get whatever floats your boat. Treat yourself, you deserve it angel.
treat yourself to a at-home spa day.
I don’t know about you but I always have my spa day essentials stocked up for days exactly like this. Put on a playlist, have an everything shower and then spend the entire evening doing some beauty treatments from the comfort of your home. If you’re feeling really cheeky maybe even get yourself a lil’ vino. Having a pamper evening is one of the highest forms of self-care in my opinion. Taking that time to fully focus on yourself is nothing short of bliss.
take yourself out on a date.
Make Valentine’s Day your excuse to go on a solo date! I did my first solo date in 2024 and it revolutionised my life. There is so much power in being able to go and do things by yourself, even if it’s a little scary at first. I haven’t yet conquered eating out alone yet but a few solo date ideas are:
- Cinema trip (perfect because no one is really talking anyway).
- Coffee + a sweet treat.
- Museum / art gallery visit.
- Shopping trip (no one to moan at you to hurry up).
These are just a few ideas for going out. If like me, you’re more of a homebody you could always cook yourself your fave meal (or order a cheeky takeaway) and watch your favourite films. Honestly, the confidence you get from doing these things yourself is unmatched.
get cosy and get the journal out.
If you know me, you know I love a good journal. A really powerful way to practise some self-lovin’ this Valentine’s Day is to write yourself a love letter in your journal. It sounds a little cringe and conceited but you’re freaking amazing so you deserve to love yourself. It’s not the easiest process to begin with because it can feel a little strange but stick with it. Even if you can only think of a few things, celebrate those things! spend it with friends.
Being single on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to spend it alone if that’s not your thing. If you fancy being more social, organise your own Galentine’s Day! I haven’t tried this yet buuut I do love to see people doing it over on TikTok. There are so many cute ideas from a pamper night, pizza and movies, painting, the list goes on. Get the girls together and celebrate a different kinda love this Valentine’s Day.
And there we have it my love, a few ideas of how you can spend Valentine’s Day this year if you’re doing it solo. This day can be hard especially for the lover girls out there (I feel ya) so it’s nice to make it a more positive day and show some self-love. Have the most beautiful Valentine’s Day angel!
Love ya, Cait xo
