closing the month gently

There’s something about the end of a month that always makes me pause.

Not in a dramatic, “new month new me” way… but in a quiet, reflective way. Like sitting on the edge of your bed after a long day and just thinking, okay… where am I actually at right now?

Because life doesn’t suddenly reset on the 1st.
But you can choose to.

So this is the soft end of month reset I come back to when things feel a little messy, a little heavy, or just slightly off.

Not perfect. Not intense. Just… real.

Step 1: Get honest (but stay kind).

Before I try to fix anything, I take a second to actually look at the month I’ve just lived.

What felt good?
What felt draining?
What did I say I’d do… and didn’t?

No guilt. No spiralling.

Just noticing.

I’ve realised the more honest I am with myself here, the easier everything else becomes. You can’t reset your life if you’re pretending everything’s fine.

Step 2: Clear your space, clear your head.

I always start with my environment.

Nothing extreme — I’m not deep cleaning the entire house at 9pm — but enough to feel like I can breathe again.

  • Fresh bedding
  • A quick tidy of my main spaces
  • Emptying bins, clearing surfaces
  • Putting things back where they belong

It’s less about being “clean” and more about creating a space that supports the version of me I’m trying to be next month.

Step 3: The life admin reset.

This is the part people avoid… but it changes everything.

I sit down and gently get back on top of things:

  • Check my bank account (even if I don’t want to)
  • Look at upcoming bills or plans
  • Reset my calendar for the new month
  • Make a loose plan for meals, routines, and priorities

It’s not about becoming hyper-organised overnight.
It’s about removing that low-level anxiety that comes from not knowing.

Step 4: Let go of what didn’t work.

Every month teaches you something.

Maybe you tried to wake up at 5am and hated it.
Maybe you overcommitted.
Maybe you kept pouring energy into the wrong people.

Instead of forcing it into the next month, I just… let it go.

You don’t need to carry everything forward.

Step 5: Choose your energy for the next month.

Not goals. Not pressure. Just energy.

How do I want to feel?

  • More calm?
  • More disciplined?
  • More present?
  • More me?

From there, everything else flows a little easier. Your habits, your routines, your decisions — they all start aligning naturally when you know the feeling you’re aiming for.

Step 6: Do one thing that feels like a fresh start.

This is my favourite part.

Something small, but symbolic:

  • A long everything shower or bath
  • Fresh sheets and a candle lit
  • Journaling with a cup of tea
  • Resetting my Notion or planner
  • Washing my hair and starting “fresh”

It’s not about the action itself — it’s the feeling of turning a page.

here’s a 30 minute version for if you’re busy or just don’t have the energy.

Not every reset needs to be a full evening routine with candles, playlists, and a deep clean.

Sometimes you’re tired. Sometimes life is a bit chaotic.
And sometimes you just need a quick “okay… let’s get it together” moment.

This is the version I do when I have 30 minutes, low energy, and zero motivation — but still want to feel a shift.

Minute 0–10: Reset your space

Nothing overwhelming, just the basics:

  • Make your bed
  • Put things back where they belong
  • Clear your main surface (desk, bedside, or kitchen side)
  • Open a window if you can

It’s not about perfection.
It’s about creating breathing room.

Minute 10–20: Reset your life admin

This is your “face it and sort it” moment:

  • Check your bank account
  • Look at your calendar for the next week
  • Write a quick brain dump of anything on your mind
  • Pick your top 3 priorities for the next few days

You don’t need a full plan.
You just need to stop avoiding it.

Minute 20–30: Reset your energy

Now we shift how you feel:

  • Wash your face or have a quick everything shower moment
  • Change into something comfy and clean
  • Light a candle or put a lamp on
  • Sit down with a drink and just… pause

Even just five minutes of stillness can change your whole mood.

A gentle reminder.

You don’t need to fix your whole life at the end of the month. You just need to come back to yourself. Even a 30-minute reset is enough to shift your energy, clear your mind, and step into the next month feeling a little lighter… and a little more in control. And honestly? That’s more than enough.

Love ya, Cait xo
