For the longest time, Sundays used to feel a little bit… heavy. You know that weird Sunday feeling where the weekend is ending and Monday is quietly creeping closer? I’d either spend the whole day avoiding thinking about the week ahead or suddenly panic at 9pm because nothing was ready. Laundry everywhere. No plan for meals. My bag still packed from Friday.
It wasn’t exactly setting myself up for a calm start to the week. That’s when I started creating a little Sunday reset routine. Nothing strict or overwhelming, just a handful of small things that help me close out the week and gently prepare for the next one. Now Sundays feel slower, calmer and a lot more intentional. Instead of ending the weekend in chaos, it feels like I’m giving myself a little head start on the week ahead.
What is a Sunday reset?
A Sunday reset is basically a small routine that helps you reset your life before the new week begins. It’s not about being ultra productive or spending your entire Sunday deep cleaning your house. It’s about doing a few simple things that make Monday feel easier and less chaotic. Think of it as gently pressing the reset button on a few areas of your life.
You’re giving your space a quick refresh, organising your thoughts for the week ahead and taking a moment to slow down before everything starts up again. It’s less about perfection and more about creating a calm starting point.
Why it makes such a difference
One of the biggest reasons a Sunday reset works so well is because it removes that Monday chaos. When you wake up on Monday and your space is tidy, your bag is packed and you already have a rough idea of what your week looks like, everything just feels lighter. You’re not scrambling to find things or trying to mentally organise your entire life before you’ve even had your first coffee.
It also helps calm that little wave of Sunday anxiety that sometimes creeps in when the weekend ends. Instead of lying in bed thinking about everything you have to do, you’ve already taken care of some of the basics. Your mind can relax because things feel a little more organised and predictable. And honestly, there’s something really satisfying about ending the week feeling like your life is somewhat together.
My simple Sunday reset routine
My reset routine isn’t anything dramatic. It’s just a handful of little tasks that make my week run more smoothly and help my space feel calmer. Some Sundays I do all of them, other Sundays I only do a few. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s just creating a little sense of order before the week starts again.
Do a quick tidy
I’m definitely not talking about a full deep clean here. A Sunday reset tidy is more like a life reset for your space. Just putting things back where they belong so everything feels a bit calmer and easier to move around in.
Things like:
• clearing surfaces that have slowly filled up during the week
• putting random items back where they belong
• taking out the rubbish
• doing a quick hoover
• fluffing up the sofa and blankets
Even just 20 minutes of tidying can make your home feel completely different. It creates that nice feeling of walking into a space that feels fresh and looked after.
Do a load of laundry
Future you will always appreciate having clean clothes ready for the week. There’s nothing worse than realising on Monday morning that everything you want to wear is in the laundry basket. Doing at least one load on Sunday just removes that stress entirely. Sometimes I’ll also wash my bedding or towels if they need it because fresh sheets are honestly one of the nicest little resets. It’s such a simple thing but clean laundry makes the whole week feel a bit more organised.
Plan the week ahead
This part of the reset is less about strict planning and more about getting everything out of your head. Sometimes I just sit down with my notebook or planner and write down anything that’s floating around in my brain.
Things like:
• work tasks I need to remember
• appointments or plans during the week
• little life admin things
• anything I want to make time for
Once it’s written down, it feels so much less overwhelming. My brain doesn’t have to keep trying to remember everything because it’s safely sitting in my planner instead. It also helps me go into Monday feeling a bit more focused and prepared.
Prep little things for Monday
This is one of the smallest parts of my reset but it probably makes the biggest difference. Taking a few minutes to prep things for Monday morning can make the start of the week feel so much smoother.
Things like:
• packing my work bag
• picking out what I’m going to wear
• filling up my water bottle
• making sure my charger is in my bag
• checking I actually have snacks or lunch ready
Monday mornings already come around quickly enough, so removing those tiny little decisions just makes everything feel calmer.
Do something cosy for yourself
A reset shouldn’t just be chores. Once the practical bits are done, I love ending Sunday with something that feels cosy and relaxing. It helps create that nice transition between the weekend and the new week.
That might look like:
• reading a few chapters of my book
• doing a face mask or skincare
• making a cup of tea and journaling
• getting cosy with a blanket and watching a comfort show
• settling into my bedtime stack
It’s like a little reward for taking care of things earlier in the day.
Keep your reset simple
The key to a Sunday reset routine that actually works is keeping it realistic. If your reset routine becomes a huge list of chores, you’ll probably start avoiding it altogether. The goal is to make life easier, not create another overwhelming to-do list.
A handful of small tasks can genuinely make a big difference. Some Sundays you might have lots of energy and do more. Other Sundays you might just tidy your space and plan the week ahead. Both are completely fine. Your reset routine should support your life, not control it.
A Sunday reset won’t magically solve everything, but it can make the start of your week feel calmer, clearer and a lot less rushed. Sometimes all it takes is a small pause to tidy your space, organise your thoughts and prepare for what’s ahead. And honestly, that quiet little moment of getting your life back in order before Monday arrives? It’s a really nice feeling.
Love ya, Cait xo
