a soft reset day: what I do when life feels loud.

When life starts feeling a little loud one of my favourite things to do is have a reset day. A day where I can just click the refresh button and focus on a few things that will make me feel more at ease. A reset day can look like absolutely anything you like – theme or no theme, full day or an hour. It’s completely dependent to what you need on that particular day.

have a slow morning.

If I’m having a reset day then I really like to start my morning with softness. Allowing myself to get up naturally and just potter about until I feel ready to start with the reset. These slow mornings change each time I do a reset, sometimes they last until about 9am and others just before midday. Take the morning to recharge a little with no agenda.

get clear on what the focus of the reset is.

Before starting to do any tasks, spend a little bit of time getting clear on what the focus of the reset is. Is it more self-care focused? Is it gonna be a life admin reset? One of the best ways to decide this is a to-do list. Brain dump all the things you can think of doing. If there’s a common theme amongst them, make it a reset that focuses on that. If not, just pick a few of those random tasks and use them as your focus.

choose how to track what you’re doing.

You don’t necessarily have to track your tasks on a reset day if that adds more stress for you but seeing those tasks get ticked off brings me so so much joy. Whether it’s a written to do list, one on Notion or one in your notes app – jot down what needs doing and get the satisfaction of slowly seeing those tasks get done.

set the mood.

I don’t know about you but for me.. ambience is everything. I find using lighting, music, drinks etc really helpful for getting me into that sweet, sweet flow state. I can’t put my finger on what it is but I just feel so much more productive when my space feels aligned to my task. Do whatever feels right for you. Whether it’s a few candles for a self-care reset or your fave 00s throwback playlist for a complete space reset.

take breaks… often.

Remember, at The Vanilla Agenda we don’t support hustle culture propaganda so breaks are encouraged. The last thing you need is for the day created to redirect you from burning out to just pile on-top of the stress causing you to burn out. Set a timer for however long you need, take a break and go back to your reset when you feel ready.

have a mini celebration at the end.

You made it through another reset day! Congrats. Now what? Well, we do a lil Pavlovian training and reward ourselves. Pick your celebration whether that be a cheeky glass of wine, a lovely bubble bath, an episode of your comfort show. Whatever it is that feels right for you. You deserve to be celebrated.

I do have a reset day planner that I’m going to be publishing on Notion soon so keep an eye on that ♡

Love ya, Cait xo
